The Roman Catholic Church in The Bahamas is part of the worldwide Roman Catholic Church, under the spiritual leadership of the Pope. The diocese was elevated to a full diocese, as the diocese of Nassau in June 1960. On June 22nd, 1999, the diocese was again elevated as the new Archdiocese of Nassau.

The Right of Installation as Archbishop of Nassau

The Most Rev. Patrick Pinder became the first Bahamian Roman Catholic Archbishop of Nassau on May 4, 2004. He succeeded Archbishop, Lawrence Burke, SJ, who was transferred to Kingston, Jamaica.

The new appointment marks yet another milestone in the life and history of the Catholic Church in The Bahamas.

Archbishop-elect Pinder was born in Nassau Nov. 1, 1953. He was ordained a priest on Aug. 15, 1980.
