Priest takes Damien's story of love to the stage in The Bahamas

Fr Edward Evanko, a 68-year-old Ukrainian Catholic priest from Manitoba, who until recently was a Broadway actor and singer, has been performing a one-man play around  Canada, Rome, London, the USA and Australia. He portrays the Molokai hero (Fr. Damien, now known as Saint damien) in a one-man play called Damien.
"Damien's compassion for the lepers led him to spend sixteen years in the "living graveyard that was Molokai," where he died at the age of forty-nine in service to people suffering from the terrible disease of leprosy".

Wearing only a black cassock and a sash, with only an old chair, Fr Evanko always performs the play in a Church and not a hall. As a one-man show he plays the characters of Fr. Damien, Damien's brother, his father, his mother, the rector of the seminary where Damien studied, a bishop and official from the board of health.

The One-Man Play will be performed during the following dates and times:
  • On Long Island Bahamas, Thursday Nov 19, 2009 (check with your Parish Priest for location and times.
  • At St Joseph's Church, Nassau Bahamas on Friday Nov 20 and Saturday Nov 21 @ 7pm.
Admission fee is only $5.00
