The Roman Catholic Church in The Bahamas is part of the worldwide Roman Catholic Church, under the spiritual leadership of the Pope. The diocese was elevated to a full diocese, as the diocese of Nassau in June 1960. On June 22nd, 1999, the diocese was again elevated as the new Archdiocese of Nassau.

Archbishop Lawrence Burke to be laid to rest 4 Feb 2010

Archbishop Lawrence A. Burke of the diocese of Kingston shall be laid to rest in his Hometown on Thursday, February 4th at 3:00pm at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kingston Jamaica.

Persons wishing to travel to Jamaica from Nassau for the funeral, are informed that a special charter has been arranged for the same day travel. The aircraft will depart in the morning and return the afternoon; the day of the funeral.

The cost of the one day trip is $470.00 which includes airfare, transfers and a lunch. Payments are to be made directly to Bahamasair.

A MEMORIAL MASS FOR ARCHBISHOP BURKE WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY, FEB 1ST, 2010 7:30PM AT ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHEDRAL, NASSAU BAHAMAS.

A BOOK OF CONDOLENCES HAS BEEN PLACED AT THE CATHEDRAL FROM TUESDAY, JAN 26TH UNTIL THE ARCHDIOCESAN MEMORIAL MASS.
