The Roman Catholic Church in The Bahamas is part of the worldwide Roman Catholic Church, under the spiritual leadership of the Pope. The diocese was elevated to a full diocese, as the diocese of Nassau in June 1960. On June 22nd, 1999, the diocese was again elevated as the new Archdiocese of Nassau.

Chancery's Office staff held at gun point

It must have been a very terrifying day when two staff members of the Chancery's Office of the Archdiocese of Nassau was held up at gun point.

On Tuesday 14 September @ around 8:36am the gunman came onto the premises of the Diocese and robbed one of the employees in the Chancery's Office and a second employee on the property grounds near the office.

The gunman escaped with an undisclosed amount of personal effects and cash from the employees. The Archbishop of Nassau, "Archbishop Patrick Pinder" exclaimed that he was thankful that the employees were not injured. Counseling has also been provided to the victims and other employees as well, as the ordeal has left some very traumatized.

Security measures on the premises will be beefed up says the Archbishop to ensure the safety of the employees, as well, the Cathedral will also be revising it's security measures.
