What is Catechetical Sunday?

On Sunday September 19, 2010 past, the Church celebrated Catechetical Sunday under the theme "Matrimony, Sacrmanet of Enduring Love".

As baptized Christians we all are called to be witnesses to the Gospel and to share God's love with the world. Those persons who have been called by God to serve as Catechists were presented to the community for their roles in CCD, RCIA, or other catechetical programs.

A commissioning ceremony takes place during Mass where the Catechists publicly state that they are willing to serve as Catechists. This past Sunday all around the Bahamas and the U.S.A, parishes called forth those persons who have been given a great honour, "to go and teach all nations".

The idea of establishing a catechetical day in each parish was presented by Pope Pius XI in his instruction entitled On Better Care for Catechetical Teaching (Provido sane consilio)published in 1935.
