The Roman Catholic Church in The Bahamas is part of the worldwide Roman Catholic Church, under the spiritual leadership of the Pope. The diocese was elevated to a full diocese, as the diocese of Nassau in June 1960. On June 22nd, 1999, the diocese was again elevated as the new Archdiocese of Nassau.

Benedictine Monk and Bahamas Native returns to Archdiocese

A native of The Bahamas has recently returned home having served with the Saint Meinrad Archabbey, in St Meinrad Indiana. During his time there Fr Russell served as Master of Ceremonies II and worked in the monastic infirmary and health centre.

Archbishop Patrick Pinder welcomes his return to the Archdiocese and has assigned him as the Associate Rector of St Francis Xavier Cathedral. During his times in The Bahamas he has filled in at various Parishes where there was a need.

Fr Russell professed as a monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey on 6th August 1992 and was ordained a priest on 8th June 1997. After graduated from Aquinas College in 1985 he attended a number of Universities where he obtained a number of degrees that included:
1986-1987 St John Vianney Seminary
1987-1991 St. Meinrad College
1992-1997 St. Meinrad School of Theology
1997-2001 University of Southern Indiana
2006-2010 Loyola University
