I will follow him

A few weeks ago me and my family sat down and watched a very old movie that still made us laugh even after having seen it numerous times before. Sister Act starring Whoopi Goldberg is about an entertainer who witnessed a crime and is forced to go into the witness protection program. She is placed in a convent where she must blend in by pretending to be a nun. She is given the task of helping the choir, where she does a very good job.

As I looked at the Gospel reading for this week I find myself questioning myself as to whether I am following Christ as we see the Magi did when they relentlessly followed that star to where he was born. Of course the song that Whoopi and the choir sang in the movie came to mind as I tapped my feet and remembered some of the words. They added a twist to an old song by making it an upbeat rendition:
♫♪♭♬ I will follow him
Follow him where ever he may go
And near him I always will be
For nothing can keep me away
He is my destiny ♫♪♭♬......

Have you ever stopped to think if you are doing all you can to follow Christ? I sometimes wonder if there is more that I should be doing, or in which way can I help someone else see the need to do so as well. We can get so caught up with our daily activities that we take our eyes off of Jesus for a period. I wonder if the Magi took turns watching the star while the others slept on their journey. As the saying goes, "if you snooze, you loose."

Do you know where to find Jesus, do you have a means to communicate with him, then share it with others. The Magi didn't keep the location of the baby Jesus a secret from King Herod even though he was the last person you would want to tell, but rather, enlighten those you come in contact with of a savior who like the psalm talks about, will rescue the poor when he cries out, and the afflicted when he has no one to help him. He shall have pity for the lowly and the poor; the lives of the poor he shall save.

It's a rather simple sell, especially if there is someone who is capable of doing those things. Why not then, follow him?
